The Faculty of Law, the University of Bengkulu (FH Unib) once again implemented the World Class Professor (WCP) Program which was held in the form of a public lecture by presenting Prof. Christie S Warren from William and Mary Law School – United States (USA), as a speaker, Tuesday (27/8/2024).

The public lecture held in the International Room I was officially opened by the Dean, Dr. M. Yamani, S.H, M.Hum, and attended by the Vice Deans, lecturers, and hundreds of students from the Bachelor of Law program (S1).

The academic activity entitled Bencoolen Public Lecture with the theme “Comparative Constitutional Law; Abusive Judicial Power in America and Indonesia” was moderated by a Lecturer in the Administrative and Constitutional Law (HAN/HTN), Ary Wirya Dinata, S.H, M.H.

In his remarks, the Dean of FH Unib, Dr. Yamani, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Prof. Christie S Warren, who was willing to share knowledge and experience with lecturers and students of FH Unib regarding comparative international law.

“We are sure that the insights he conveyed will be handy for all of us, especially in strengthening our understanding of the role of law in maintaining justice and democracy,” he said, while hoping that this activity can also be an inspiration for further research that can bring benefits to the wider community.

Previously, the Act. Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FH Unib, Dr. Ema Septaria, S.H, M.H said, that in addition to improving the international academic atmosphere, this World Class Professor activity was carried out to improve the quality and quantity of collaborative research, as well as expand the global network of FH Unib.

“With the increasing activities of professors from abroad at FH Unib, in addition to providing enrichment of knowledge and experience for lecturers and students, it can also improve international cooperation networks and encourage an increase in the achievement of IKU (Key Performance Indicators), especially regarding the number of foreign professors/lecturers who are active at FH Unib,” he explained.

At the opening of this public lecture, a cooperation agreement was also signed between the Faculty of Law Unib and William and Mary Law School – USA, as well as the American Institute for Indonesia Studies (AIFIS). This session ended with the giving of souvenirs and a group photo.

The public lecture was continued involving dozens of students from the Postgraduate Program of FH Unib, S2 (Masters) and S3 (Doctoral) levels. The activity was attended directly by the Director of the Postgraduate Program of FH Unib Prof. Dr. Herlambang, S.H, M.H.

The students were very enthusiastic to listen to Prof. Christie S Warren’s presentation on “Introduction to American Legal System and Judiciary Power Branch”.

“Prof. Christie’s explanation is very interesting and adds insight for all of us, especially about the legal system and branches of judicial power applied in America.
