Office of Partnerships and International Affairs (UPT KSLI) of UNIB held a workshop on International Academic Programs as one of the efforts to realize internationalization of UNIB 2025 on Thursday (05/02/2019), in Rectorate building.

This activity was opened by Rector of UNIB, Dr. Ridwan Nurazi, SE, M.Sc and was attended by Vice Rectors, Deans and or Vice Deans, Chairpersons of Institutions, heads of departments, as well as heads of study programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels from all faculties.

The purpose of this workshop is to support the achievement of targets set out in UNIB Business Strategy Plan of 201-2023. Then, it is also to increase understanding and preparation in the management and cooperation of international academics such as the opening of international classes, double degree and joint degree, international accreditation and other activities.

Relevant to this goal, UPT KSLI UNIB presented three speakers to fill the workshop material that lasted for a day. The three speakers are experienced academics and have been actively involved in carrying out a number of international scale activities in their respective assignments.

The first speaker was Junaidi, MA from University of Indonesia (UI). He has served as Head of the International Office of University of Indonesia (2011-2015) and has also been Chairperson of the ASEAN University Network – ASEAN Credit Transfer System (AUN-ACTS). He was also the coordinator of the double degree program at UI, and currently he is involved in helping as an Expert in Directorate of Institutional of Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education in the matter of internationalizing universities in Indonesia.

The material presented by Junaidi at this workshop was “Development of academic programs and international cooperation as well as building international standard quality assurance.”

The next speaker was two economic lecturers from two different universities, namely Dr. Fahmi Rahmy from Andalas University (UNAND) West Sumatra, and Prof. Dr. Lizar Alfansi from UNIB itself and is currently carrying out the mandate as Vice Rector for Academic Affairs.

Dr. Fahmi Rahmy has pioneered international classes at Department of Management at Faculty of Economics, UNAND. Whereas Prof. Lizar Alfansi, was serving as Dean of Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNIB, he initiated the formation of an English-language class in Department of Management, Development Economics and Accounting.

At this event, Dr. Fahmi Rahmy said about the experience of pioneering and developing an international class. Whereas Prof. Lizar Alfansi, in addition to delivering UNIB’s policy on the direction of developing an international academic cooperation program, also held discussions with workshop participants about obstacles, challenges and future directions related to UNIB’s international class.

Head of Office of Partnerships and International Affairs (UPT KSLI) of UNIB, Dr. Yansen at the opening of the workshop said, the concept of internationalization of higher education is often misinterpreted as western minded. Even though this concept is an emphasis on the concept of global citizenship education as well as innovation and creativity.

“Therefore, we conducted this workshop to provide a shared understanding of the concept of internationalization of higher education, so that in the future we can prepare for the management of academic activities and international cooperation activities. Thus, the target of internationalization of UNIB as stipulated in the Business Strategy Plan of 2019-2023 can be achieved very well, “he said.

Meanwhile, Rector of UNIB, Dr. Ridwan Nurazi gave direction that all international activities of UNIB must be recorded from time to time, from year to year. with valid and accurate data, in the future it will be easy to evaluate and develop an effective and efficient program plan in realizing UNIB internationalization.

Rector appreciated the workshop’s activities and hoped to provide a shared understanding to all faculties and study programs about the concepts, potentials, challenges faced and the direction of the development of internationalization in the future.
