Three students of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) University of Bengkulu recently won the Gold Medal at the 2022 World Invention Competition and Exhibition (WICE) which was held at SEGi University, Damansara, Malaysia.
The three students who achieved this proud achievement were Fisabily Layla Annisa, who is familiarly called Fisa, a student of 2020, as the team leader. Two of her team members are Meutia Tri Lestari and Alya Afifah Izwandi. The research student team was guided by a Lecturer of Microbiology and Immunology, FKIK UNIB, Mardhatillah Sariyanti, S.Si, M.Biomed, as the Supervisor.
The World Invention Competition and Exhibition (WICE) is an international competition event for talented young researchers who are active, creative, and innovative. WICE 2022 was initiated by the Indonesian Young Scientist Association (IYSA) and SEGi University and was held successfully at SEGi University, Damansura, Malaysia, on 25-30 September 2022.
The WICE competition in 2022 was attended by more than 300 participants from 25 countries. There are various categories of competitions ranging from elementary school to university level. This time, the FKIK UNIB student team brought up the results of their research, entitled “Duslip (Durian Seed Lip Balm) as Antioxidant Lip Care”.
This research idea previously also passed funding for exact research in the Student Creativity Program (PKM) held by the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology through the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa).
In this study, the Team utilized one of the plants with antioxidant potential, namely durian fruit seeds which were made into lip balm preparations, so it was very good for improving lip skin health naturally.
The results of this study are expected to provide effective and efficient lip skincare solutions by utilizing natural ingredients. Because, as it is known that lips are very susceptible to environmental influences and various side effects from the use of healthcare products, cosmetics and other skincare products. The lips are affected, can experience dryness, crack and cause a dull color.
After going through an assessment process by competent judges in their fields, finally, the research of the FKIK UNIB Student Team won a Gold Medal at the WICE 2022 event. This success is expected to be an inspiration and motivation for other UNIB students to continue to work, and actively innovate to produce research that is greater and able to carve out more achievements.
