Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) University of Bengkulu successfully hosted the Annual Meeting and Seminar (SEMIRATA) of Cooperation Agency (BKS) of Western State Universities in 2019 which is centered at  Grage Hotel of Bengkulu City, 5th-7th of July 2019.

The annual seminar of 2019 with the theme of “Science and Technology for the Prosperity of the Nation” was also arranged by the International Conference on Science and Technology (ICST). Both national and international seminar are the second time carried out by Western State Universities in the field of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA) after ICST at Medan in 2018.

The opening of the annual seminar of 2019 and ICST was marked by  beating the Dol, the traditional musical instrument of Bengkulu, by the Chairperson of Western State Universities (PTN BKS) in Mathematics and Natural Sciences field represented by Executive Secretary Dr. Ir. Entis S Halimi, M.Sc (UNSRI), accompanied by Vice Rector of Resources of UNIB,  Dr. Ir. Sigit Sudjatmiko, M.Sc; Dean of FMIPA UNIB, Dr. Zul Bahrum Caniago, M.S and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Dr. Irfan Gustian, in hall of Grage hotel of Bengkulu City.

Previously, the academics and researchers in the field of Mathematics and Natural Sciences involved in national and international seminars were invited to dinner together by the Provincial Government of Bengkulu at the Deputy Governor’s official residence. This is a form of appreciation and support from the Bengkulu Provincial Government to the world of academia.

The Dean of FMIPA UNIB, Dr. Zul Bahrum Caniago claimed to be very proud to have been a host for the meeting and seminar of Western State Universities (PTN BKS) in the field of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of 2019. He appreciated the high enthusiasm of universities in the scope of Western State Universities (PTN BKS) that had sent participants to this activity.

“The number of national seminar participants are 114, both oral and poster. Then for ICST the participants are 107. We would like to thank and express our highest appreciation for your presence and participation in making this annual agenda a success, “he said.

Dr. Zul Bahrum was also very grateful to the speakers from abroad who attended and participated in sharing knowledge at ICTS of 2019 in Bengkulu. They are Prof. Martianus Frederick Ezerman from Nanyang Technology University – Singapore, Prof. G. Sudarsanam Sri Venkateswara University – India, Bambang Sumintono, Ph.D from the Institute of Educational Leadership, Faculty of Education, Universiti Malaya – Malaysia, and Dr. Oki Muraza from KFUPM, Dhahran, SA.

“This forum is expected to be a forum for academics in MIPA field to connect and engage with a panel of academics and scientists that in turn  their science and education will continue to grow and make a real contribution to the development and welfare of the Nation,” said Dr. Zul Bahrum.

He added, through SEMIRATA and ICST of 2019, it was hoped that in the future, this activity would become a prominent collaboration program among state universities in Western Indonesia. Also, all selected papers from the conference would be published in Scopus-indexed conference proceedings, or both in national and international journals.

Rector of UNIB, Dr. Ridwan Nurazi, SE, M.Sc, represented by Vice Rector for Resources, Dr. Sigit Sudjatmiko welcomed the annual seminar and meeting (SEMIRATA) of Western State Universities (PTN BKS) in MIPA field of 2019 in Bengkulu City. Moreover, this event was also part of an International Conference that brought together foreign speakers which was making this event bigger and globalized.

Dr. Sigit also appreciates the development of MIPA recently which is going well and attractive. This field gives much contribution to the advances of this university in increasing the academic atmosphere  and resulting many academic journals accredited both national and international.

“Along with our vision, hopefully this event brings benefits to all of us, specially in supporting the advance of our nation in MIPA field,” said Dr. Sigit Sudjatmiko.

The academics from University of Sriwijaya, Palembang who is also the Executive Secretary of Western State Universities of MIPA, Dr. Ir. Entis S Halimi, M.Sc., is thankful for all leaders of UNIB and the committees from FMIPA UNIB who prepared this annual event very well.
