The University of Bengkulu (Unib) held a public lecture and training session entitled “Coaching Clinic Rise Up: Management of Educational and Testing Laboratories.” This event involved laboratory heads, technicians, and daily laborers from various faculties at Unib. The event took place on Monday (December 23, 2024) at the Integrated Services Building (GLT) of Unib.

The event was opened by the Vice Rector II for Resources at Unib, Yefriza, S.E., MPPM, Ph.D, representing the Rector of Unib. In his speech, Yefriza emphasized the importance of strengthening laboratory managers’ competence to support the implementation of the three pillars of higher education: education, research, and community service.
“We continue to revitalize and improve laboratory facilities and infrastructure. Along with that, human resource development is also a priority, such as competency certification and training. Today, through public lectures and coaching clinics, we hope that laboratory managers will gain additional knowledge and skills,” said Yefriza.

He added that high-quality, accredited laboratories are one of the indicators of an excellent university. Therefore, Unib is committed to improving the quality of its human resources and laboratory facilities to produce reliable data, high-quality product prototypes, and high-quality research results.
Unib has 23 educational and testing laboratories, spread across five faculties: 8 in the Faculty of Agriculture, 4 in the Faculty of Medicine, 6 in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, 3 in the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, and 2 in the Faculty of Engineering. However, only one laboratory has been accredited, namely the Integrated Laboratory of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, which holds ISO 17025:2017 accreditation from the National Accreditation Committee as a testing laboratory.

In this coaching clinic, Committee Chair Dr. Yar Johan explained that the event consisted of two sessions presenting material with expert speakers in their respective fields. The first session discussed “Strategies for Achieving Laboratory Accreditation,” presented by Dr. Suheryanto, M.Si, Head of the Analytical Chemistry and Testing Instrumentation Laboratory at Sriwijaya University.
The second session featured Rairan Syahda Putrian Raya, Manager of PT. Sinergi Mitra Analitika, who presented on the locally made Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) and laboratory furniture design. In addition, Yenni Putri Sari, S.Pi, M.Sc, from the Unib Fisheries Laboratory, also provided material on laboratory management at Bengkulu University.


“We would like to thank the leadership of Unib for their full support for this event. We hope that laboratory managers will be increasingly motivated to improve their competencies and contribute to the realization of accredited laboratories that support Unib’s vision of excellence and global competitiveness,” said Dr. Yar Johan.
